The Nürburgring Südschleife, opened in 1927 along with the Nordschleife, was a shorter and lesser-known section of the famous Nürburgring. This 7.7 kilometer long circuit was located south of the Nordschleife and offered smoother turns and smaller elevations. In the past it was used as a training track and for smaller racing events, providing an alternative to the demanding "Green Hell" Nordschleife. After the changes and expansion of the Nürburgring in the 1970s, most of the Südschleife was gradually abandoned and its original track is now largely overgrown with vegetation. Nevertheless, some fans and historians still remember this forgotten piece of motoring history, which was an important part of one of the world's most prestigious circuits.
